Punchtotal is built and maintained by Lawrence Quarles, from Madison County, Alabama.

It exists because the free calculators for this stuff are mostly bad. Several of the ones ranking at the top of Google get the arithmetic wrong — one popular work-days calculator has been counting ten federal holidays since Juneteenth was added in 2021, which makes it a day off in almost every year it publishes. Another gives two different answers to its own headline question in the same article. When a wrong number ends up in a payroll run, somebody gets underpaid.

How these pages are made

• Figures are computed, not copied. The work-days table is generated from the statutory holiday rules rather than transcribed from another site, and the conversion charts are generated from the arithmetic. That removes a whole category of error.
• Sources are primary. The Department of Labor, the Office of Personnel Management, the Bureau of Labor Statistics, and the regulations themselves — not blog posts summarising them. Each page lists what it drew on.
• The tools show their work. The work-days calculator lists every holiday date it used, so you can check it rather than trust it.
• Nothing is collected. No accounts, no tracking, no data leaving your browser. See the privacy policy.

What this site is not

It is not legal or payroll advice, and I am not a lawyer or a payroll professional. Wage and hour rules vary by state and by job classification and they change — the pages here describe the rules as published, and anything consequential should go past your payroll provider or an employment lawyer. The terms spell this out.

Corrections

Accuracy is the whole point of this site, so error reports are genuinely welcome and get acted on. If a number here looks wrong, say so on the contact page and include what the tool showed and what you expected.
